Two killed in mishap at Maldhakka Chowk

Pune: Two persons died in a mishap near Ambedkar Bhavan at Maldhakka Chowk on Saturday afternoon. The police arrested the driver who rammed his car into a garage, causing the death of a mechanic and a customer present at the spot.

The accused was identified as Rajendra Lodge (45), a resident of Nasrapur who rammed his car into the garage owned by the complainant Marcus Londhe and killed two persons who were identified as Frank Alexander (45), a resident of New Modikhana and Arun Gaikwad (57), a resident of Vallabh Nagar in Pimpri.

The accused was identified as Rajendra Lodge (45), a resident of Nasrapur who rammed his car into the garage owned by the complainant Marcus Londhe and killed two persons who were identified as Frank Alexander (45), a resident of New Modikhana and Arun Gaikwad (57), a resident of Vallabh Nagar in Pimpri.

Alexander worked as a mechanic at the garage whereas Gaikwad had come to the garage to get his car repaired.

According to the Samarth police, Lodge was going to Sassoon Hospital with his mother on Saturday afternoon. However, he lost control over the speeding vehicle and rammed it into the garage causing damage to six cars and killing the two persons.

Alexander and Gaikwad were rushed to a private hospital after the accident, but they succumbed to their injuries.

The police registered a case under section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and section 304 A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
