Pimpri: The Indo Cyclist Club, an NGO, on Sunday felicitated two Indian cyclists, Srinivas Gokulnath and Amit Samarth, who completed the Race Across America (RAAM) solo. The race started in California on June 13 and ended at Annapolis, Maryland on June 25.
A crew of 16 accompanied the two cyclists. These two cyclists crossed over 29 states including California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana and Maryland.
The criterion was to complete the race in 12 days.
Two years ago, the Mahajan brothers were the first Indians to complete RAAM in a team.
Samarth said, “I was preparing for RAAM for the past six months by cycling continuously on highways and hilly terrains. But covering around 5,000 km in 11 days 21 hrs and 11 minutes, and pedalling for 3,070 miles or 5,000 km was a big task for me.”
“It is equivalent to climbing Mount Everest five times. In the first attempt, I was able to complete the race,” he added.
