Two booked for assault and robbery near NDA

Pune: Two youths have been booked for committing a robbery at a shop just a few metres away from the premises of National Defence Academy (NDA) under Uttam Nagar police station area.

One of the accused has been arrested and another accused is still at large. The arrested accused has been identified Pratik Nalawade, 19, a resident of Kondhwe Dhawade in Haveli who assaulted the complainant Chirag Kangude, 23, a resident of Haveli and demanded extortion from him.

According to the Uttam Nagar police, Nalawade who was in drunken state threatened to beat up the complainant who runs an ice cream shop near the NDA gate’s bus stand.

Nalawade came to the shop of the complainant with one of his accomplices and demanded Rs 10,000 as protection money. 

Nalawade told the complainant that he is the local don of the area and if he wants to run his shop, he should agree to his demands.

However, when the complainant confronted Nalawade and his friend, they attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon and ransacked his shop.

The incident which occurred just 30 metres from the NDA gate has raised a question related to the security in the area which is residence of many retired army personnel.
