Two arrested for possessing illegal firearms

Pune: Two history sheeters have been arrested by Pune rural police on Wednesday for possessing illegal firearms. Police have recovered four country-made pistols and 10 live cartridges from the duo.

The accused have been identified as Rajendra alias Raja Rathod (32), a resident of Haveli, and Dhondibhau Jadhav (25), a resident of Ahmednagar. The duo was arrested in Wagholi on Wednesday evening on a tip-off provided by an informer.

Police were informed that Rathod and Jadhav, who have various body offences registered against them, were going to visit Wagholi in order to deliver country-made pistols. The police laid a trap and arrested both the accused from a spot near Maidan Chowk in Wagholi. 

Rathod, who is a notorious criminal, is also involved in the business of illegal sand mining. He is well connected with the sand mining mafia operating in the State and was also running illegal sand mining projects in Aurangabad, Daund and Shirur. He was also suspected to be involved in the attack behind a Tehsildar in Parner.

Both the accused have been arrested for the charges under Arms act by Pune ( Rural) police.
