Two arrested, 9 persons booked in suicide case

According to the Shikrapur police station, the girl was found missing after she left home for some work in the market. Later her body was found in the well.

PUNE: Two persons have been arrested and nine persons have been booked by the Shikrapur police on Monday in the suicide case of 19-year-old Pooja Sakat.

Sakat whose house was burnt during Koregaon-Bhima riots was found dead inside a well on Sunday. Her body was found floating inside the well.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ganesh Pathak and Vilas Vedpathak, whereas the absconding accused are identified as Subhash Ghawate, Goraksha Thorat, Ganesh Thorat Navnath Vilas Darekar, Dnyanoba Darekar, Somnath Darekar and Sudhir Dhamdere.

The police informed that the deceased girl was a resident of a rehabilitation project. 

Her brothers Jaideep and Suresh went to Ahmednagar on April 20 and found their sister missing on their return on April 21. A day later, her body was recovered from a well which created a tension in the area. After her body was found, a complaint was registered by Dilip, a resident of Kedgaon in Ahmednagar. 

Family members of the girl were reluctant to accept the body of her unless the accused were arrested by the police. They have alleged that they have received life threats in the past and rioters have burnt their house in front of the deceased and her brother Jaideep. A complaint was registered by the deceased family at Shikrapur police station on February 11 after which they were threatened again.

Jaideep Sakat had addressed a press conference in relation to the threats received by Sakat family on April 6 and has alleged that government authorities are not taking action against the accused persons despite them registering a complaint against the accused.

Senior officials of Pune rural police have assured the family of appropriate action against the accused persons and have also promised to rehabilitate them within a month.

The police have registered a case under section 306 ( abetment to suicide ), 34 offences under the Scheduled Castes And Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the accused persons.
