Pune: Officials from Bhosari police station have arrested a woman TV actress and three others for trying to extort money from people on the pretext of booking them under false cases.

Pune: Officials from Bhosari police station have arrested a woman TV actress and three others for trying to extort money from people on the pretext of booking them under false cases.

According to Police Inspector AH Bhosale of Bhosari police station, the woman accused, identified as Pooja Jadhav, reportedly acted in TV serial ‘Crime Patrol’ and was booked along with five accomplices, two of whom are yet to be arrested. The accused persons were trying to extort Rs 5 lakh from a man and threatened to file a rape case against him.
The 30-year-old man from Kalewadi, in his FIR against the accused persons, said the incident took place at 2.30 pm on Saturday at Vanraj Hotel, a lodge, in Bhosari. The complainant had paid Rs 1,500 for the commercial sex worker’s services. When he was coming out of the lodge, the accused persons caught him and demanded Rs 5 lakh and threatened to lodge a rape case against him and defame him if he failed to pay. When he showed his inability to pay the amount, the accused persons forcefully took away Rs 6,000 from his posession.

Later, the man lodged an FIR against the accused persons, identified as Maya Sawant, Maya Ovhal, Anita Jadhav, Pranali Pawar and Ravindra Shirsam, besides Pooja Jadhav of Hadapsar. The police arrested four accused and are yet to arrest Anita Jadhav and Maya Ovhal. The police said the accused persons operated as a gang and their modus operandi consisted of using commercial sex workers to trap men, from whom they used to extort money.
