Pune: With a view to ensure safe school transport, a website has been started by the transport department, police department and the education department. The website www.schollbussafetypune.org will provide details of schools, school buses, drivers and attendants, among other things.

When contacted, officials from Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) informed that the website will also provide information about the school transport permits, the design of school transport committees and meetings undertaken by these committees in various schools.

“For ensuring safe school transport, a meeting was conducted recently. Authorities from the police department, education department and PMPML attended the meeting,” said RTO officials.

They added that the meeting discussed several factors for safe school
transport.

“During the meeting, the problem of schools not entering into an agreement with bus owners was highlighted. Due to lack of co-operation from schools, many bus owners complained that they do not get a school transport permit,” said  the officials.

They added that to address this issue, it has been decided that education department must take action against schools not adhering to the rules.

The officials stated that apart from this, the bus owners will be obliged to submit character certificates of the drivers and female attendants.
On the occasion, RTO officials stated that action would also be taken against schools who have not formed the school bus transport committees, which were formed to help address issues in school transport.
