Traffic violator arrested for roughing up lady constable

Motorcycle-borne Sartape came from the direction of Keshav Nagar and was riding on the wrong side of the road. However, when he was asked by the complainant to move from there, he got enraged and got into an argument with her.

Pune: A lady police constable was roughed up by a 32-year-old man when he was stopped by the former for violating traffic rules. The incident occurred on Monday at Mahatma Phule Chowk in Mundhwa, after which a complaint was filed at the Mundhwa police station.

The police have arrested the accused, who has been identified as Ravi Sartape, a resident of Kondhwa. 

According to the complaint filed by the lady constable posted in Hadapsar traffic division, the incident occurred around 11.15 am on Monday while she was performing her duty at the Mahatma Phule Chowk in Mundhwa. 

As per the complainant, motorcycle-borne Sartape came from the direction of Keshav Nagar and was riding on the wrong side of the road. However, when he was asked by the complainant to move from there, he got enraged and got into an argument with her.

After violating the traffic rules, Sartape started talking to the complainant in foul language. Later, another traffic police official came to the incident spot and put a jammer on the motorcycle. This further infuriated the accused, who started threatening them. He attempted to attack the lady constable and hurled vulgar abuses at her.

Police informed that despite repeated warnings to act properly, Sartape continued behaving in a wayward manner and was arrested by the police.

Police have registered a case under section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 354D (Stalking) and 506 (Punishment for criminal 
intimidation).
