Pune: A 17-year-old girl from the city recently underwent a breast surgery to remove 31 lumps at a city-based hospital. The surgery was successful without damaging the milk ducts, which can help her to breastfeed in the future. The doctors, who operated on the girl, said that the surgery was complicated and was done by a new technique.

Dr Anupama Mane, breast surgeon from Jehangir Hospital, told Sakal Times the girl came to the hospital 10 months ago with complaints about lumps in her breast. “The lumps were getting painful. It is a common condition. Around 50 per cent girls suffer from this. However, when the lumps get big, they have to be removed surgically. In this case, the lumps were in a large number, which meant if operated upon, scars of the surgery would be visible,” said Dr Mane.

After consultation with the doctor, it was found that a total of 31 lumps were present. “One breast had 21 lumps whereas the other had 10. So, the plastic surgery technique, used to artificially lift the breast was used,” said Dr Mane.
