PUNE: Three teenagers were killed while one was critically injured in a late night mishap, which occurred on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday on Bhugaon Road in Mulshi. Police have arrested the accused driver, who rammed his car into the four friends, who were going on their two-wheelers.
The deceased have been identified as Kunal Sharma, 18, a resident of Viman Nagar, Manas Upadhyay, 18, and Shubham Madar, both residents of Kharadi. The injured person has been identified as Dhruv Bishnoi, also a resident of Kharadi. The four boys were students of a college in Kharadi and were going to Café CO2 in Bhugaon to have dinner on the night of the fatal accident.
The accused driver, who has been arrested by the police, has been identified as Darshan Jamdade, 25, a resident of Bawdhan.
Arun Waykar, Senior Police Inspector, Hinjewadi police station, said the mishap took place around 1.30 in the night. The four students were going towards Bhugaon whereas the accused driver was coming from Bhugaon to Chandani Chowk. He was driving at a high speed and rammed his car into the four students who were on two separate two-wheelers.”
Waykar informed that the accident was of such impact that two of the students (Manas Upadhyay and Kunal Sharma) died on the spot. Shubham Madar succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital whereas Dhruv Bishnoi is battling for his life.
Hinjewadi police have registered a case against Jamdade under sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 304A (Causing death by negligence) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of India Penal Code.
