Three men held for Fatangade’s murder

Pune: Three persons were arrested on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the murder of Rahul Fatangade, who died in the riots at Sanaswadi village on the Ahmednagar highway during the vigorous clashes between the two groups on January 1.

Lakhs of people had gathered at Perne Phata Vijaystambh to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Koregaon-Bhima battle when violence erupted at Sanaswadi, located about 4 km from Perne Phata.

According to Pune rural police, Fatangade was beaten up badly by a mob, which resulted to his death.

A case of murder was registered against unknown persons at Shikrapur police station.

A police officer told Sakal Times, “Based on the analysis of video clips, call records of the area, we have arrested three persons from Ahmednagar district in connection with Fatangade’s murder. The accused have admitted the murder.  A magistrate court has remanded the accused persons in five days’ police custody. Fatangade’s 10th-day rites were held in his native village Gholapwadi in Kanhurmesai in Shirur taluka, on Wednesday, amid heavy police bandobast.

Meanwhile, the police also arrested five more persons in other cases of violence and commotion taking the total number of arrests to 51.
