Three men arrested for trying to extort Rs. 10 lakh from doctor

Pune: Three men were arrested by Bharati Vidyapeeth police for allegedly demanding Rs 10 lakh extortion from a doctor. 

The arrested accused have been identified as Akash Santosh Pawar (24), Shakeel Kallukhan Pathan (29) and Akshay Shivajirao Ravde (24), all residents of Uruli Kanchan.

The arrested accused have been identified as Akash Santosh Pawar (24), Shakeel Kallukhan Pathan (29) and Akshay Shivajirao Ravde (24), all residents of Uruli Kanchan. 

The accused called up the doctor several times and also threatened to harm his children and nephew. He approached the police about the threat and extortion calls. Accordingly, a trap was laid at Undri Chowk where the accused called the doctor with the money at 1 pm on Monday. 

DCP (Zone 2) Pravin Mundhe said, “The accused changed the location and asked him to reach Mantarwadi Phata. We found that three men on two bikes were following him. They had covered their faces with handkerchiefs. We caught them at Handewadi Chowk and recovered three duplicate pistols, four mobile phones and a weapon with sharp edges from their possession.”

The police said one of the accused’s the girlfriend of and doctor’s nephew study in the same college. Through her, the accused had learnt that doctor has got huge wealth, hence they planned the extortion bid.
