Three dead, two injured after speeding car rams into pole

Incident took place on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass; driver booked for rash driving

Pune: Three persons were killed while two others were severely injured after the car they were travelling in rammed into a pole on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass in the wee hours of Friday. A case of rash driving has been lodged against the driver of the car at Bharti Vidyapeeth police station in this regard.

Pune: Three persons were killed while two others were severely injured after the car they were travelling in rammed into a pole on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass in the wee hours of Friday. A case of rash driving has been lodged against the driver of the car at Bharti Vidyapeeth police station in this regard. 

As per information given by the Bharti Vidyapeeth police, the deceased have been identified as Dhiraj Shinde (30), Nikhil Choughule (27) and Ashutosh Yadav (29). The injured have been identified as car driver Sushant Patil (25) and Digvijay Mahajan (24). 

Police officials said that all five occupants of the car were friends and stayed in Narhe. At around 3.15 am, they were heading from Katraj towards Wadgaon when Sushant rammed the car into a pole. The car overturned before coming to a halt in a small ditch. 

While Ashutosh and Nikhil were killed on the spot, Dhiraj died while under treatment. Police Inspector K Takawale and Assistant Police Inspector S Yadav rushed to the spot after the incident. The police have pressed charges of rash and drunken driving against Sushant Patil in the case. Police suspect that the five persons were returning from a party when the incident took place.
