PUNE: Three senior officials of the Central Railways, Pune division and a builder were booked by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI, Pune unit, for allegedly committing fraud of Rs 49.1 lakh in tenders related to civil works.
The case was registered against RN Gupta, then senior divisional engineer coordination, Santosh Parge, then senior divisional finance manager, MS Rajput, then senior divisional electrical engineer, of Central Railways, Pune division and contractor Rahul Chowdhary of Mangalmurty Constructions.
According to CBI, the railway officials abused their official position and awarded tender to Chowdhary’s firm for civil works related to repair of staff quarters at Ghorpadi and water arrangement from Ghorpadi to Pune station. The tender was issued in April 2016 for the work estimated to be worth Rs 43 lakh. There were four companies and two of them quoted less than Rs 43 lakh, while Mangalmurty Constructions quoted Rs 47.8 lakh, while another firm quoted Rs 49.3 lakh.
The officials were part of the tender committee who forged documents to disqualify other firms’ tenders and then recommended to the competent authority to award tender to Mangalmurty Constructions. The case has been registered for criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery for purpose of cheating under the IPC.
