Three booked for extorting money for Dahi Handi

Pune: Three persons have been booked for allegedly assaulting a shopkeeper and extorting Rs 1,000 from him for Dahi Handi celebrations. 

The incident occurred on August 20 and a complaint was registered at Hadapsar police station on Sunday.

The police have arrested one of the accused identified as Vishal Mirekar, 35, a resident of Mirkar Colony in Hadapsar. However, two of the accused persons are still at large.

According to the Hadapsar police, on the evening of August 20, Mirekar along with his two accomplices went to the shop of complainant located on Saswad Road. The trio demanded Rs 1,000 as Dahi Handi donation. But, when the shopkeeper refused to pay them the amount, the trio assaulted him and took away Rs 1,000 from the cash counter of the shop.

A case under section 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused persons.
