Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received only one more bid for one of the six tenders published for the execution of the ambitious 24x7 water supply to the city even after extending the deadline by a week.

The bid has come from a company, SPML that has been black-listed by other civic bodies in the State. Owing to the lukewarm response from bidders, the PMC had to give one week’s extension, which ended on Monday, for accepting bids for the round-the-clock water supply.

Barring this company, only two contractors remain in the competition, but the process will not meet the requirement of having at least three bidders for fair competition.

The ambitious project is supposed to be undertaken by six different contractors for six phases. While more than three bids were received for the first, third and fifth phases of the project, some of them are companies blacklisted by other local bodies. This is the reason PMC decided to extend the deadline for submission of the bids.
