Technical work at Pavana dam disrupts water supply to PCMC

Pimpri: Water supply to Pimpri-Chinchwad has been disrupted due to the ongoing technical work at Pavana Hydroelectric Power Plant. As a result, the quantity of water released from the dam has been reduced and efforts are being made to release sufficient water from the water resources department.

The work is likely to continue till Friday and the water supply is likely to be disrupted till then, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Wednesday urged citizens to use water judiciously. On Tuesday, the water level in Ravet dam remained below the requirement.

Pravin Ladkat, Executive Engineer of PCMC’s Water Treatment Plant, said, “As the water level in Ravet dam is going down, the pump had to be closed.”

Ladkat said, “400 cusecs water was released from the dam on Monday night which reached Ravet in about 30 hours. In the morning, there was no significant rise in water level in Ravet dam and despite this, all 18 pumps were kept running. We are keeping an eye on the water level of the river and we are trying to give enough water to the citizens. But we appeal to citizens that they should use the water judiciously till the completion and after completion of work, the water supply will start smoothly.”

From Ravet dam, the PCMC is lifting 480 MLD, MIDC is lifting 100 MLD and 30 MLD water is being supplied for Wagholi Water Supply Scheme. Due to the decreasing water level in the dam, the water supply in all these areas has been adversely affected, he added.
