Techies spread message of curbing use of plastic

PUNE: Around 500 IT professionals are walking with lakhs of warkaris during the annual pilgrimage of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj palkhis. This year, IT professionals are spreading the social message of ‘Nirmal Wari’ (a plastic free wari) and educating pilgrims and city residents about curbing the use of plastic.

Since several years, IT professionals have been participating in the wari with the intention of spreading a social message. This year, close to 200 professionals joined pilgrims at Dehu and are walking with Sant Tukaram Palkhi till Hadapsar, while around 250 professionals participating in the Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhi will walk till Saswad. 

Kapil Pandey, an IT professional from Zensar, said, “This year, we have focused on curbing the use of plastic, which is harmful to the environment.”
