Techie pointed out encroachment on PCMC land on HInjawadi road

Pimpri: A techie, who was working in a private company at Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi, sent a letter to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner about rampant encroachments on land that belongs to the civic body. Nine acres of land at Wakad octroi post has been encroached upon by private entities.
Techie Vaibhav Deshpande said one of the main reasons for severe traffic jams in Hinjawadi is ‘encroachments’ along the road obstructing smooth flow of traffic. He said, “The Balewadi octroi post is merely two kilometres from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) octroi post, a plot owned by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), which has been made available for a PMPML bus depot. The PCMC’s octroi post plot has been encroached upon by illegal parking of private bus operators, trucks, tea stalls and garages for past nine years.”
When Shrikar Pardeshi was the civic chief, the PCMC was about to get rid of these encroachments. The plot was to be used as a parking facility for IT employees’ cars and shuttle buses. However, he was transferred.
Deshpande has identified 21 encroachments along the road towards Bhumkar Chowk and other roads in the area.

When contacted, PCMC officials said the plot has been handed over to the Land and Estate Department of the PCMC by the Octroi Department. The Land and Estate Department should have freed this plot from encroachments long ago after octroi was abolished.
PCMC ‘D’ ward executive engineer Devanna Gattuwar said, “The land has not been handed over to the Civil Engineering Department. An anti-encroachment drive has not taken place till date.”
