Tax collection: Pimpri Chinchwad contributes Rs 4,000 crore in 2016-17

Pune: In the last financial year (2016-2017), Pimpri Chinchwad has contributed Rs 4,000 crore to the Central Excise Department.
This tax includes Income Tax and Service Tax as well. As compared to the previous year, there has been an increase of 65 per cent in Income Tax and 15 per cent rise in Service Tax, notified sources from the Central Excise Department.
The Central Excise Department of Pimpri-Chinchwad includes Bhosari, Lonavla, Chakan and Talegaon under its jurisdiction. These areas cover a large industrial belt.
For the year 2016-2017, Rs 2,239.82 crore was collected as Income Tax whereas Rs 1,860.82 crore was collected as service tax.
PCMC earns Rs 187 cr advance property tax
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has earned an advance property tax of Rs 187.45 crore by June 30. During this period of three months, 1.58 lakh property owners were given a concession of Rs 9.80 core.
Pimpri-Chinchwad Assistant Municipal Commissioner Dilip Gawde said that this was the highest advance property tax collected by June 30 by the civic body during the past seven years.
The number of people who have been paying taxes online has been increasing every year. This year, 77,182 property owners have paid Rs 82.35 crore tax online. Their percentage of the total tax payers is 43.93. This year, property owners have paid Rs 12 crore to the PCMC as a penalty for illegal constructions. This amount is higher as compared to the previous two years.
