Pune: Symbiosis International University inaugurated its new Symbiosis Centre for Yoga in association with S-VYASA Deemed University Bangalore on Saturday. The new centre is located at Symbiosis International Management School (SIMS) Khadki.
The focus of Symbiosis Centre for Yoga is to promote, practice and teach yoga for inner peace and wellbeing.
SB Mujumdar, Chancellor of Symbiosis International, HR Nagendra, Chancellor of S-VYASA, Rajani Gupte, Vice Chancellor of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Nayana Nimkar, Director of Symbiosis School of Sports Sciences (SSSS) were present at the inaugural event. The first programme offered is Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy (PGDYT). The diploma will be conferred both by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) and S–VYASA, Deemed University.
The course is designed for graduates in medicine, alternative medicine, health and allied sciences, paramedical sciences, nursing, yoga, and physical education. The objective of the course is teaching the students to integrate yoga therapy into their practice for prevention and treatment of lifestyle diseases.
Nimkar mentioned that a combination of science and technology with the progress of the mind and spirit is the need of the hour.
“The highlights of the programme are the use of a combination of traditional and contemporary approach, research-based orientation, teaching and guidance by the experts and a one-week internship at S-VYASA Deemed University for hands-on experience,” said Nimkar.
Gupte said, “This centre will inculcate amongst individuals the importance of fitness and health. It is important that the mind and body are in harmony with each other and yoga helps you to achieve it.”
