SWC will offer funding for research and conferences

Pune: The State Women’s Commission (SWC) has made an appeal to research institutes and social organisations to apply for funding from the commission, which is available to encourage conferences and research papers related to women’s issues and development. 

The SWC is a government body that functions to encourage and protect women’s rights, handling women’s issues and aiding their development. Vijaya Rahatkar, Head of the Commission, said that the body handles many forms of women’s issues through various mediums. It has been at the forefront in aiding research, consultation, financial literacy, single mothers and women’s laws.

“In the year 2016-17, we granted funds to the tune of Rs 1.58 crore to various organisations and research institutes to carry out research regarding women’s health, single mothers and women’s rights. Around 192 conferences and programmes and 45 research projects were funded using that amount,” said Rahatkar. “We want more institutes and organisations to come forward this year,” added Rahatkar. 

The information related to the funds is available on the portal of the commission www.mscw.org.in. The Commission aims to aid projects and conferences to create awareness and to elevate women’s position in the society. The Commission has asked for applications regarding the same which are to be submitted before 5 pm on June 30.
