Pune: MahaMetro has finalised its decision on elevating the Swargate-Katraj metro route instead of an underground one. In a press conference held on Saturday, Brijesh Dixit, MD of MahaMetro, said, “Elevated metro of Swargate-Katraj route is a cheaper option than the underground one. We are making a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the route and it will be complete within two months.”
Dixit said, “Elevated metro is popular across the world. Underground metro is expensive as compared to elevated one while maintenance cost of underground metro is also high.”
He further said, “MahaMetro has started work of making DPR of Swargate-Katraj, PCMC to Nigdi and Nashik Phata-Chakan routes. Metro network will expand from 32 to 57 kilometre after these three extension routes. There will be 200 kilometre of Metro work in Pune city and it will expand step by step.
MahaMetro started metro information centre at Bal Gandharv Rang Mandir premises on August 15. The information centre is a replica of a metro train. This has been done to ensure that citizens get a feel of a metro train. A team of dedicated staff would be posted there to guide citizens and give them information about the metro project.
This information centre will remain functional throughout the day from
7 am to 11 pm.
