Swachh Pune-Swachh Bharat will conduct 70 cleanliness drive across city

The drive is planned to be held in 70 areas of the city to mark the 70th Independence Day

Pune: A mega cleanliness drive will be held on August 13 in 70 areas of the city, under the 'Don Tass Swachh Pune Prayas' initiative by 'Swachh Pune-Swachh Bharat' to mark the 70th Independence Day of India.
The Swachh Pune-Swachh Bharat group was started on Facebook on October 2014 by Wing Commander Puneet Sharma (Retd), an Indian Air Force veteran.

The aim is to gather people on Sunday for a two-hour cleanliness session. Wing Commander (Retd) Sharma said, "On October 12, 2014 we started the cleanliness drive at Pune railway station with only seven volunteers. Now, there are 20 social organisations including the individuals which has a count of more than 2,000 volunteers."

"A flash mob will be conducted a week before the mega event at Amanora, Seasons and Pheonix malls along with Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden on JM Road and Empress Garden near Race Course to spread the word," Sharma said.

On August 13, along with the cleanliness, beautification and plantation drive, there will be a bike ride by Road Shakers where 400 bikers will go around the city to urge people to join the drive.

"We were targeting 70 areas in the city to mark the 70th Independence Day including the major events. Already the cleaning and painting work of 80 pillars of Hadapsar flyover has started by Diya Foundation," Sharma said

India@75 Foundation, an initiative by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has also extended its support to the drive.
Rajesh Bahl, IT, E-governance and youth services of Rotary Club of Poona said, “There are two group of 40 volunteers each of Rotaract Club of Poona Royal including the young crowd which will go around 10 different places in the city for the drive. Along with it more than 50 volunteers of the Rotary Club of Poona will be joining the drive.”

Maithili Manakawad, Secreatary of Wanawadi Residents Forum said, "The residents of Wanawadi will be cleaning and beautifying the 200 feet long wall at Axis Bank Chowk at Wanawadi."
