Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities to be awarded elective course credits

Pune: In a recent University Grants Commission (UGC) meeting, it has been decided that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities will be considered as an elective course under the choice-based credit system (CBCS) for two credits.

UGC has instructed all universities and its affiliated colleges that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities are to be treated as elective course and should provide two credits as per any other elective courses to students of higher education who will undertake 15-day (100 hours) summer internships in its activities.

“In this summer internship, it is expected that the students will not only participate in the overall cleanliness in villages or slums, but will also help in setting up systems for sustaining cleanliness and sanitation efforts under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

“These efforts are expected to provide a great learning experience in the Indian context to students across the country and will help in improving the overall quality of education,” reads the letter.

The UGC has further emphasised on considering implementation of this elective course from the forthcoming summer session and give wide publicity among the students so that a majority of the students opt for this elective course.
