Pune: The police custody of Harpal Singh Pratap Singh Naik (42), a native of Punjab, who has been arrested by the State Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for his links with Khalistani terrorists, was extended till December 31 on Monday.
The ATS submitted to the court that they are investigating his Facebook accounts and phone details. He currently lived in Bellary in Karnataka. On getting information, the ATS Pune unit arrested him on December 2 near Hotel Garva (Shelgaon) on Chakan-Shikrapur Road in Khed taluka. The police recovered one pistol and five live cartridges from his possession.
According to the ATS, during investigation it was revealed that the suspect is conversant with the use of social media and Internet. With its use he was allegedly trying to procure weapons and instigating youths for carrying out terrorist activities in India. He is in contact with people promoting terror from across the country and abroad including Pakistan, the ATS alleged.
