Pune: “India’s supercomputer ‘Param Super Computer’ should remain in the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) campus. And to retain it in the campus, a Memorandum of Understanding can be signed between the University and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC),” said SPPU Vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar.
He was speaking at the 31st Foundation Day of C-DAC here on Sunday. Also present during the programme were C-DAC Founder President Vijay Bhatkar, Director of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Jayant Udgaonkar, C-DAC Director Hemant Darbari, Executive Director Col (retd) AK Nath, Hindi department head of Jamia Milia Islamia University Ashok Chakradhar, Head of Reliance GenNext Innovation Hub Ecosystem Development Rajiv Vaishnav.
Karmalkar said, “Varsity and C-DAC’s association is 30-years-old. The association has seen many ups and downs in the three-decade-old journey. But I strongly feel that the relation between the two as the owner and the tenant should not come in between and the supercomputer shouldn’t go out of the campus. I think all such institutes in varsity campus should come together and work like a group.”
Supporting Karmalkar’s stand, Bhatkar said, “C-DAC was finding a better place when it was founded and we zeroed in on a place in the varsity. But many were unhappy to come here and work, but still we continued our work and the rest is history.”
Bhatkar said, “C-DAC should work in the area of artificial intelligence and various research institutes working in the varsity should partner for research work. C-DAC should also pursue innovation in research and help other institutes.”
Vaishnav, Udgaonkar also spoke on the occasion while Darbari hosted the programme.
