PUNE: The student union election is mandatory and the government should conduct it at the earliest, said President of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Ram Satpute, at a press meet held on Thursday.
“In the past 25 years, there has been no proper student’s union election in Maharashtra. When State Education Minister Vinod Tawde was elected, he had announced that soon, there will be a student’s union election, but so far, there has been no indication of it,” said Satpute.
“There are many students’ issues which need to be looked at and to put it across to the senate of universities or higher authorities, students require a representative who can seek solutions by raising the issues,” said Satpute.
He added that semester-wise examinations should be abolished and an annual examination should be held. “Students are juggling between semesters and examinations only. This is not helping them seek the right education, instead, they are learning to just pass exams. Introducing annual examination will lessen students’ burden,” added Satpute.
“The needy students are unable to procure scholarships. They are instead made to pay heavy fees. The government has turned deaf ears to them. Such students’ issues need to be looked at. The government should also promote corruption-free education,” said Satpute.
