They are several problems at the hostel, say students

Pune: The students of the Government Hostel for Tribal Students in Hadapsar are on a hunger strike from Saturday evening to protest against the negligence that they are facing from the authorities and the hostel rector.

“For a very long time, we are facing several problems at the hostel like inadequate rooms, not enough food during meals, etc. Our mess serves us just potato vegetable for consecutive 4 to 5 days. If we wish to complain about the problems, we are unable to do so as the rector is not available to meet us in his office. So finally, in order to solve our issues, we decided to go on an indefinite hunger strike till our issues are resolved,” Shubham Sute, one of the protesting students, said.

While the students were on hunger strike from Saturday evening, they also held a protest march on Sunday. However, neither the rector nor any other officials met with the protesting students till late Sunday evening.

“We are not going to take back our protest until the rector meets us and resolves all our issues. We will not eat until our demands are met,” Sute said.
