Stolen ornaments worth Rs 11 lakh seized by cops

Pune: Officials from the Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) of Pune city police have nabbed two persons and recovered stolen ornaments worth Rs 11 lakh from them. With their arrest, the police have solved 20 burglary cases. The arrested accused persons were identified as Nikhil alias Monty Dattatray Kangne (24) of Talegaon Dhamdhere and Amol Raghunath Gopkar (28) of Chikhali.

The arrested accused persons were identified as Nikhil alias Monty Dattatray Kangne (24) of Talegaon Dhamdhere and Amol Raghunath Gopkar (28) of Chikhali.
 
The Crime Branch officials were searching for wanted accused in various cases, when policeman Amol Pilane received information that Kangane and his accomplice would arrive at a jeweller’s shop near Gandhi Chowk in Hadapsar on August 26.
 
Accordingly, a team from AEC laid a trap and caught Kangane and Gopkar.
 
The accused were produced before the Pune Cantonment Court which remanded them in two days’ police custody. During the remand period, the police recovered the stolen ornaments from possession of the accused persons.
 
The accused have committed thefts in the jurisdiction of Chandan Nagar, Yerawada, Vimantal, Wanawadi, Faraskhana, Sahakar Nagar, Sinhagad Road, Warje-Malwadi and Nigdi police stations.
 
ACP Sameer Shaikh supervised the investigation team which included Senior PI Raghunath Jadhav, PSI Rahul Ghuge and policemen Avinash Marathe, Pandurang Wanjale, among others.
