State to set up Centralised Sports Academy in Pune
Krida Prabodhinis to come up at 14 places across State
Pune: A Centralised Sports Academy in the Shiv Chhatrapati Kridanagari, Pune and Krida Prabodhinis at 14 other places across the State will be set up from the academic year 2018-19 as a first step toward raising the standard of physical education and sports.
The State government recently made the necessary budgetary provision for the same. Of the funds reserved for the project, Rs 840 lakh will now be released for the year 2018-19. The Commissioner, Sports and Youth Services has approved the grant. According to a GR released in this regard, money will be drawn from the funds allotted for the establishment of a sports university for the year 2018-19.
The GR instructs the officials to utilise the given funds within the regulations set by the different government orders, rules and government resolutions.
The proposed Krida Prabodhinis have been fashioned after the non-residential Krida Prabodhinis already present in Pune and Kolhapur for the sport of ‘shooting’. While the scheme for the students, who wished to get training in sports without living in a hostel, had begun after a GR was issued on July 9, 1999, the government, on September 21, 2013 issued an order to launch a new Krida Prabodhini programme in the State.
