State okays 19 new colleges under SPPU

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) are likely to come up in the forthcoming academic year. The higher and technical department of the State government has sanctioned the letter of intent (LoI) from 19 colleges in Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik districts for academic year 2019-2020.

PUNE: Around 19 new colleges for arts, commerce, science, aviation, law and performing arts under 

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) are likely to come up in the forthcoming academic year. The higher and technical department of the State government has sanctioned the letter of intent (LoI) from 19 colleges in Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik districts for academic year 2019-2020.

Among these, two are night colleges from the city. Most of the colleges will offer courses in arts, commerce and science, while one college will facilitate BSc in Aviation, two law colleges, one fashion designing and one performing arts college. 

These colleges will be established under section 109 (3) of Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016.

The State government has instructed that it has given sanction to 19 colleges, but the permission to start them will be done only when these colleges fulfil the conditions laid in the LoI. Unless the work is completed as per the provided conditions and final approval is received from the State government, the colleges cannot start functioning fully. It has also mentioned that the works stated in the letter has to be completed by January 31, 2020.

Also, the university should not provide affiliation certificate until colleges have received final approval from the State. And, the colleges will not start the admission under it as well. The colleges should have facilities and amenities according to Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, notified the State government.
