Officials of Stamps and Registrations Department said that the department has generated revenue of Rs 26,000 crore this year but they continue to lack enough manpower which is affecting the officials.

PUNE: Manpower crunch, lack of training and infrastructure were some of the issues highlighted by officials of the Revenue, Stamps and Registrations Department who had gathered at the annual review meeting of the department. The meeting was held with Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil at Pune Zilla Parishad office on Wednesday.

Officials of Stamps and Registrations Department said that the department has generated revenue of Rs 26,000 crore this year but they continue to lack enough manpower which is affecting the officials.

“The revenue is generated from conveyance deeds, mortgages, leave and licence agreements and other sources. Advocates prepare registration document of over 200 pages which needs to be checked at the Sub Registrar Office. As the manpower of the department is less, it is adding work pressure on the officials,” said an official of the department.

The officials have raised their concerns with the minister and are expecting a solution by the government. Another official added that despite generating such huge revenue for the government, they have to work in dingy offices which lack basic infrastructure.

“We have to work continuously from 9 am to 6 pm and hence, the office should have decent infrastructure. At many places, the Sub Registrar Department is working on holidays and weekends which shows the dedication of the department and in return, we expect some help from the government,” added another official.

As most of the work done by the department depends on hardware and software, the officials have also demanded technical training to be imparted to them so that they are able to handle technical issues which arise while working. The department is facing issues of server connectivity which is affecting many citizens as their work gets delayed. As a source of increasing revenue for the department, the officials are planning to tap film and advertising industry.

Mumbai, Pune and Thane offices of Stamps and Registration Department contribute about 45 per cent of the entire revenue generated by the department in the State.
