St Mira's College for Girls holds annual fest

Pune: With an aim of encouraging budding women entrepreneurs, Centre of Women Entrepreneurship (CWE), an initiative of Dept of Business Studies and BBA, St Mira's College for Girls celebrated its annual festival, Mira Bazaar, on Saturday.

Unlike before, this time Mira Bazaar was open to all the departments. "Initially, when CWE came into action, our aim was to give a platform to the budding entrepreneurs, but then our Principal, Dr Gulshan Gidwani, mentioned that entrepreneurship can be within anyone, it shouldn't be only business students who can be part of it. Hence, this time Mira Bazaar was open to all faculty," said Dr Rama Venkatachalam, Coordinator of CWE.

Sonia Konjetti, founder of PULA - a platform on Facebook, for bringing together women entrepreneurs and Shaila Limaye, Managing Trustee - Majhi Maitrin, inaugurated the Mira Bazaar at the college campus.

"I felt really happy when I saw these girls getting this amazing opportunity at such a young age. We did not have such a platform while we were in college. I am sure these girls are going to go a long way with the kind of training and guidance they are getting from the college. Every stall in Mira Bazaar was unique, most of the things they were selling were handmade. Today is the world of innovation and it takes time to get a name in the market, but once you do, there is no looking back, and I think all these girls have the potential to reach that point," said Sonia Konjetti.

"It is a nice opportunity for the girls to come ahead and it's a chance for them to learn and also to display their vision and creativity. Our NGO's mission is to make women completely independent and I saw that in each and every girl here," said Shaila Limaye.

Mira Bazaar had a total number of 50 stalls of food, handmade jewelry, clothes, etc, with 200 participants, which included student participation of other colleges of the city as well.
The Mira Bazaar was coordinated by Jyoti Chintan and Rajni Singh. The other committee members are Principal Dr Gulshan Gidwani, Dr Rama Venkatachalam, Minakshi Balkawade, Dr Dimple Buche, Shanti Fernandes, Deepa Krishnamurthy, Rekha Khankariya, Amrita Basu, Abhradita Chatterjee Nahvi, Isha Mehra and Kajal Jaisinghani.
