SRPF jawan held for killing three in Daund

Pune: A SRPF constable has been arrested by the Pune rural police after he killed three persons in broad daylight at Daund on Tuesday afternoon.

The accused constable has been identified as Sanjay Shinde and is attached to the Indian Reserve Battalion of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF). He opened fired using his firearm at two different places and shot dead three persons including one of his relatives.

The deceased persons killed by Shinde have been identified as Prashant Pawar, Anil Jadhav and Gopal Shinde, all residents of Daund in Pune district.

According to the Pune rural police, the first round of fire was shot by him at around 2 pm at a location in Nagar Mori area after which he went to Borawake Nagar and indulged into the second round of firing on his victims. The whole incident happened within a short span of 20-25 minutes.

After killing three of his victims the accused took shelter in a house and threatened to kill other people as well. However, he was overpowered by the police later.

A source in rural police informed that Shinde who is been attached to the group 7 of IRB has killed the three persons over a tiff related to financial dealings with them. He said, “Prima facie, it seems that the constable had a tiff with the three victims over payment of around Rs 10,000.” 

“It has also been reported that Shinde had earlier been roughed up by the victims after which he resorted to firing gunshots on them.”

The police informed that the weapon of murder was a pistol and they have recovered around 11 rounds of cartridges from Shinde.

Mohammad Suvez Haque, Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, said, “He is going to be in our custody and the exact reason behind his motive to kill three persons will be cleared only after the enquiry.” A case under section 302 (Murder) has been registered against the accused constable. 

A source in Pune rural police said the SRPF constable was addicted to gambling (matka) and the  dispute started over financial deals of Rs 8,000 to 10,000 which was not handed over to him by the trio. 

After taking shelter in the house, the accused constable went missing and was located by the police in Supa village of Parner taluka in Ahmednagar. Shinde was tracked down and arrested on the basis of phone surveillance. 

Shinde first killed Gopal Shinde  and Prashant Pawar at Mori Chowk and then went to the house of Anil Jadhav in Borawake Nagar, where he dragged out the victim and shot him at point blank range.
