PUNE: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has undertaken a project of highlighting the contribution of various scholars in Philosophy from across the country.
SPPU’s Philosophy Department has developed a DVD focusing on the lives and contributions of 37 philosophers in their fields.
Around 25 DVDs will be launched on May 4. Chairperson of Maharashtra State Commission for Women Vijaya Rahatkar, Vice-Chancellor of SPPU Nitin Karmalkar, former head of philosophy department and writer Sadanand More and Prof Abikadatt Sharma, Philosophy department from Gour University in Madhya Pradesh, will be present at the launch event of the DVDs.
The Department of Philosophy and E-content Development and Learning Innovation Centre (ECDLIC) have jointly filmed the video consisting of interviews of 13 philosophers.
Apart from this, the Centre for Advanced Studies and Philosophy Department have document the contribution of 24 philosophers in the field of philosophy.
Anirudh Joshi, Director of ECDLIC, said, “Our aim is to archive a collection of scholars and their works from different sectors. This is with a view that a film or video of such collections could be used for reference by students for their academic learnings.”
“Our efforts will also be towards providing additional supplementary information on several upcoming syllabi and works to students,” he added.
“Through this project, we have conveyed the importance of philosophy studies in a series of interviews,” added Joshi.
