SPPU has redesigned the honorarium facility for teaching and non-teaching staff to ensure fairness and equity among all the non-teaching staff.

PUNE: Bringing in more transparency in the honorarium that is paid for the extra work put in by the teaching or non-teaching staff of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on a public holiday, the varsity will now pay the person only after s/he has done the biometrics on such off days.

SPPU has redesigned the honorarium facility for teaching and non-teaching staff to ensure fairness and equity among all the non-teaching staff.

So far, a non-teaching staff would be given extra pay as per their extra services in the university as demanded by the department. They would receive an honorarium for working during the conference meets, the university held functions like convocation, seminars etc.

However, now the university has stopped that procedure, instead will provide a standard pay for all non-teaching staff according to the biometrics, stated a circular which was issued last month.

“The honorarium structure has been redesigned in order to ensure fairness and equity among all non-teaching staff,” said registrar Prafulla Pawar.

During the management council meeting held on September 27, 2018, it was recommended that the different remuneration given to non-teaching staff for the extra work they do on different occasions should be streamlined and standardised. Followed by which, the new honorarium structure will be implemented from April 1, 2019.

As per the new structure, non-teaching staff will not be given allowances for organising department or inter-department seminars. No allowances will be given to teaching and non-teaching staff for organising admission procedures, discussions, seminars or any other programmes held in any of the department.

Further, as per the management council meeting, even for confidential works of university, re-evaluation or quality analysis work, the staff will not be given any honorarium. The varsity has also directed the all HoDs to not issue any recommendation letters for any non-teaching staff stating to provide them an allowance for extra or overtime work done for any departmental purpose. Any work related to department will be considered a part of their work, therefore, it will not be considered as extra work and no honorarium will be sanctioned hereafter. While as per sources, it has been learnt that the honorarium will be completely stopped.
