Pune: There was a rise in vehicle registrations in the month of June at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Pune before implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST).
According to statistics of RTO, around 35,749 vehicles were registered in June, which is 20 per cent higher than in May 2017. “We have received a high number of vehicle registrations in June. Around 25,655 vehicles were registered at Pune RTO, the Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO registered 10,127 vehicles. The two-wheelers registered in Pune were 18,840 and 4,859 four-wheelers were registered. The growth was only before implementation of GST. Many showrooms provided discounts on vehicles and announced that GST will have an impact on vehicles,” said a senior officer of RTO, Pune.
According to the statistics, “Around 1,41,182 vehicles were registered from April to June this year. Out of this, around 1,06,629 two-wheelers and around 24,968 four-wheelers were registered in RTO, Pune in June. In the previous year (April-March 2016) 5,52,042 vehicles were registered with RTO, which includes Bharat III ban announcement by Supreme Court.”
“It is a fact that registration of vehicles with transport offices in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad is up. A large number of bikes and mopeds indicate the use of private vehicles by residents for their daily commute. Families have at least one two-wheeler and a car. Some families have more than one two-wheelers,” an official from the RTO said.
Vehicles that witnessed a jump in registrations include cabs, contract carriage vehicles and private cars.
