Soon, a new mobile app to book railway tickets
UTS app service for Pune-Lonavala locals and for passengers travelling to Mumbai
Pune: The Railway Board has taken a step to going paperless by making unreserved tickets available for suburban stations on the mobile phone. The Pune railway division will start the service within a week on the Pune-Lonavala section and for those passengers who are going to Mumbai and having general tickets. “Passengers can book tickets on their mobile phone with the help of UTS app. This feature is being made available to all smart mobile phone holders,” said the railway officials.
According to the railway, around 1.12 lakh passengers travel between Pune and Lonavala every day and railways earn Rs 13.10 lakh of revenue through the service daily. The railway administration is going to provide a new facility for suburban passengers and will benefit from the move.
Milind Deouskar, DRM said, “The passengers who travel between Pune and Lonavala as well as Mumbai, do not need to wait for tickets in a long queue as the new app will give relief to the passengers’ and it is very easy to install the app from Google Play Store.”
According to an official of Pune railway division, “The booking of tickets on the app will be very simple. Passengers will be able to book tickets with 2 km of radius from the railway station, station building or railway track. During the checking of tickets, the passengers can show the image of the ticket as they will receive it on their mobile phone. Also, passengers can show their ticket without having an Internet connection through the ‘show ticket option’. The ticket will not be transferred to any other passenger and it can not be cancelled.”
The ticket can be booked by registration, R-wallet and book ticket. For registration, passengers have to give details of their mobile phone number following with name, gender, date of birth, ID card number, city etc., and they will get the login ID and password via SMS. Similarly, for R-wallet, passengers must use R-wallet option to make the payment. R-wallet can be recharged on UTS counters or online IRCTC’s common payment gateway utsonmobile.indian.rail.gov.in.
Pune-Lonavala local to have a new rack
The local train passengers of Pune-Lonavala section will have more space in the train to sit, as a new rake has been introduced by the Pune railway division. The new Siemens rake will now be available in the locals. Earlier three rakes were running on the section and with the arrival of the fourth rake, all local trains will have new rakes. Milind Deouskar, DRM, said, “All coaches of these rakes are newly designed which will prove to be comfortable for the passengers in terms of sitting and standing. The interior is quite attractive, windows and doors are also wide. Apart from this, passengers get clean air out of which the ventilation system is also installed in the coach.”
