Pune: The Guruprasad Cooperative Housing Society at Bund Garden Road, Sangamwadi, has saved thousands of rupees on its electricity bills since it has stopped depending on traditional electric connection for its water pumps and started using solar generated electricity. The society is also a part of the Sakal Times Neighbourhood Connect initiative.
When the society installed a solar energy generation setup on Nov 30, 2016 for its water pumping needs, the electricity bill for water pumping for all seven buildings used to cost them Rs 50,000/- approximately. After the solar energy installation, the cost came out to around Rs 15,000 per month only. The society has also applied for a 5 per cent rebate on property tax which is pending with the PMC.
The society, for the past one decade, has been certified as ‘A’ grade society. The Managing Committee of 10 people for the society is chaired by BV Ramesh with CF Golawala as the Secretary. Every month, this committee meets to review the society activities. They also maintain Register I&J as required by Registrar of Societies, Maharashtra.
