Six arrested for violent incidents during bandh

Pune: The nationwide bandh called on Monday by the Congress Party and backed by MNS over rising fuel prices and depreciation of the rupee, took a violent turn in several parts of the city. As per information shared by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Morale, six persons were arrested by the city police for getting involved in violent incidents in the city.
“All were MNS workers and have been booked for rioting and vandalising public property in different parts of the city. Three FIRs have been registered at three different police stations.
Three people have been identified and wanted in an FIR registered at Kothrud police station for vandalising public property and rioting. Protests were held at 7 different places where rallies were conducted and sit in protest were organised at two different places. The police had also detained 29 protestors in Kondhwa, Koregaon Park and Yerawada for some time to maintain law and order during the protest,” added Morale.
Bandh was observed in different parts of the city and petrol pumps in different areas remained shut till evening. No major incident of disturbance of law and order was noted in Pune’s rural areas. Police officials said that apart from vandalising of PMPML buses in different areas, public transport in the city was smooth.
