Signature campaign launched for withdrawal of bus pass hike

Pune: The PMP Pravasi Manch organised a signature campaign demanding the withdrawal of hike in bus pass fare on Saturday at Mhatre Bridge. Many daily commuters were also present during the campaign.

The commuters travelling by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses are opposing the move by the authority from day one of its announcement. The PMP Pravasi Manch had written letters to Tukaram Mundhe, Chief Managing Director of PMPML.

According to a member of the manch, “Participating organisations’ representatives had spoken about their support and suggestions on the fare hike.”

PMP Pravasi Manch, Nagrik Chetna Manch, Nationalist Congress Party, Janwadi Mahila Aghadim Lokayat, Janeev Sanghatna, Shahid Bhagat Singh Manch Pimpri-Chinchwad, PCCF Pimpri Chinchwad, Aam Aadmi Party, Pune, Parisar and Sajag Nagrik Manch Pune will be participating in the campaign.

Maj Gen Sudhir Jathar (Retd), PMC opposition leader Chetan Tupe, Maruti Bhapkar, Sujit Patwardhan, Sanjay Shanke, Col Baburao Choudhary (retd), Vivek Velankar, Sanjay Shitole, Satish Chitale and Yatish Devgadia were also present.

“The fare hike is illegal and against the commuters. If required we will take the matter to the court,” said Major General Sudhir Jathar.
