Shiv Sena leader's car mows down two girls in Baramati

Pune: Two school students died and one was injured in a hit-and-run case involving the driver of a SUV belonging to a Shiv Sena leader in Baramati. The mishap occurred on Thursday on Baramati-Morgaon Road.

The deceased students were identified as Divya Gyaneshwar Pawar and Sameeksha Vitkar of standard eight and seven respectively. Both were residents of Lashkar Vasti in Baramati. The injured student was identified as Payal Lashkar.

According to the Baramati police, the mishap took place when the students were on their way to school. The students were hit by an SUV belonging to Shiv Sena leader Pappu Mane.

The police have booked a case against five persons. Three of the accused were identified as Balasahab Jagtap, Rishikesh Chowdhary and Prithiviraj Chavan, all residents of Baramati. The identity of the remaining two has not been revealed yet.

The police have arrested Chavan whereas the other four are still at large. All the accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
