Set up NSDU for Muslims: CM

Institution will be built on Waqf land in Kondhwa 

Pune: The principal secretaries of both state skill development and state minority development departments received a notification from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directing them to take required steps with regard to the proposal of setting up the National Skill Development University (NSDU) for the Muslims on the Waqf land in Kondhwa. 

As reported by Sakal Times earlier, a national skills and vocational university for Muslim minorities was proposed to facilitate higher and tertiay education to young boys and girls from the community to enable them to acquire vocational, skill-based and employment-centric qualifications.

According to the proposal, there will be a small campus in the beginning that will be offering full-time programmes but around 10,000 students will be admitted in the external, virtual and distance learning courses besides full-time students on the main campus.

The organisation has charted 20 faculties, which are to be offered including faculty of environmental sciences, social sciences, management studies, interfaith studies, faculty of engineering and technology, faculty of oriental medicine, faculty of paramedical studies, faculty of law, faculty of education, faculty of media studies, faculty of dance, drama and music, fine arts, fashion technology and cosmetology, agriculture, science, emerging science and technology, language studies and faculty of library and information sciences.

It has also mentioned guidelines on running the institutions, which include that the programmes introduced in the academy must be job-oriented, lessons should be user-friendly, proper counselling of students must be done, periodical dispatch of lessons and other materials and periodical assignments and progress monitoring should be done. There should be proper communication between the students and the institution.
