Senior citizen loses Rs. 31L in online scam

Police Sub-Inspector Vijaykumar Shinde of Alankar police station is investigating the case.

Pune: A 75-year-old man was cheated to the tune of Rs 31.92 lakh by three persons who informed him that the Income Tax Department has to pay him Rs 38 lakh and to claim the same, he needs to pay some processing amount. The incident took place between January 2017 to May 2017. A case of cheating has been lodged at Alankar police station.

As per information given by the Alankar police, the complainant was receiving phone calls from three different persons who had identified themselves as Chadda, Swati Sharma and Meenakshi Gupta. The trio had lured the complainant to believe that he will be given Rs 38 lakh by the Income Tax Department. Later, the accused asked for depositing some amount in their account as a processing fee. The complainant kept on depositing money as asked by the fraudsters only to find that he is being scammed. The complainant who stays in Kothrud then approached Alankar police station and lodged a case.
