Pune: A 65-year-old elderly man committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in the wee hours in Nigdi on Wednesday. A case has been registered at Nigdi police station.
The deceased has been identified as Prabhakar Panchal, a resident of Saraswati Housing Society at Rupee Nagar, in Nigdi. The incident came to light when the family members of Panchal found him hanging from the ceiling of his room on Wednesday morning.
Vijay Kumar Palsule, Police Inspector, Nigdi police station, said,
"Panchal used to live with his family and his daughter used to stay next door. Prima facie, it seems that Panchal ended his life by hanging himself during the wee hours of Wednesday and was discovered by his family members in the morning. However, the reason for committing the suicide is still unknown. We are investigating the matter and will take necessary action if we find any foul play in his death."
