PUNE: Citing the recent spate of attacks on doctors, Advocate Ujjawal Nikam said that law takes action, but when the incidents happen the doctors have to tackle the situation.
Nikam was speaking as guest of honour at the 33rd Annual CME and Installation of Managing Council 2018-19 held by the Pune Obstetric and Gynaecological Society (POGS) on Saturday.
Nikam said there is a difference between knowledge and wisdom.
“Many a times, in spite of best efforts, the doctors may not be able to save a patient and there may be a couple of people in the group of relatives who might be aggressive. To tackle the situation, the doctors should be able to pinpoint these possible aggressive persons and get the message across with proper communication,” said Nikam.
He said self-confidence, ability to anticipate, ability to draw the inference, mental strength and presence of mind is a must for professions like doctors and lawyers. “Self-confidence is the most important thing. Umbrella can’t stop the rain but assists in standing in the rain. Likewise, self-confidence gives the inspiration to move forward,” said Nikam.
Dr Bharati Dhore Patil, who took charge as President of POGS, said the theme for this year at POGS is ‘Just care for her based on connect, adore, respect and elevate’.
