Security beefed up at Pune airport

Pune: A red alert has been sounded at Lohegaon airport, which is considered to be a hyper sensitive airport. The security is handled by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The Quick Reaction Team (QRT) is on high alert at the airport. The CISF personnel have been asked to conduct double-checks to prevent anyone suspicious from entering the airport. The CISF has also deployed armed staff in civil dress at all airports in the country for better preparedness in case of any eventuality.

Six dog squads have been kept ready. These squads of CISF will alert the forces if any vehicles are abandoned in the parking lot of the airport. “We have deputed personnel in civil dress as spotters,” said a CISF official.
“Extra men have been deputed to look after the whole premises and even towards the city side and all kinds of cautions are being taken. The same arrangements will continue on Independence Day and we might extend it to a few more days,” a CISF official from New Delhi said.

Recently, concern was raised  about passengers clicking photographs and taking selfies in the terminal and also the air side. “Pune is a defence airport and hence photography isn’t allowed mainly on the air side of the facility. People who are seen clocking pictures on the air side are questioned and background checks are done at times,” another official pointed out.
