More CCTV cameras, street lights and security guards will be added on the campus for the safety of students.

Pune: The security checks at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will be beefed up soon, as stated by Vice-Chancellor Nitin Karmalkar recently at a press meet on the campus.

More CCTV cameras, street lights and security guards will be added on the campus for the safety of students. The varsity has been dealing with the issue of inadequate security staff for nearly a year. Many untoward incidents were observed on campus as well.
“Out of 80 CCTV cameras already installed on campus around 50 CCTV cameras are to be repaired. Additional 50 cameras will come up soon on the campus. Street lights will also be put up on isolated and dark streets as per the requirement,” said Registrar of SPPU, Arvind Shaligram.

Karmalkar said recently a team of police had visited the campus to survey the security checks and have asked them to take the necessary security measures as soon as possible.

“We have been trying to get proper security staff on campus for a long time. We are currently negotiating with a State government recognised agency, as it will be on paper, double security personnel will be deployed on campus,” said Karmalkar.
