Pune: Network of Women In Media, India (NWMI), Pune Chapter and Department Of Communication And Journalism, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Ranade Institute will be organising the screening of the short film ‘Sabita Goswami: A Journalist Remembers’ by Geeta Seshu Independent Journalist and Contributing Editor, The Hoot (India). The screening will be held on August 25, at 3 pm.

The screening will be preceded by a discussion with the filmmaker Geeta Seshu and Sabita Goswami. Geeta Seshu is an independent journalist and Contributing Editor, The Hoot (India). This screening is being organised in the backdrop of series of news reports regarding potential disenfranchisement of over 40 lakh people from Assam after being tagged as outsiders in a land they may have been inhabiting for generations.

Stories abound of the tragedy of exclusion, the uncertainty of statelessness and denial of belonging. The interaction with senior journalist Sabita Goswami, who has covered Assam agitation 35 years ago will give rare insights into the roots of the imbroglio and try to show the political, social and economic factors and events that led to this massive Supreme Court-monitored National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise and its implications for the people of Assam.
